in cooperation with a group of artists in Colombia (or out of it) two very beautiful souls - Alí Majúl y Leidy Chaverra González - initiated the RUTA CULTURAL.
it is art brought to the barrios. sometimes, it is quite challenging for people to gain access to art and education for many reasons (you better ask somebody who knows more about it than me about the possible why...).
thus, LA RUTA CULTURAL brings art in many forms and workshops into the barrios to create awareness together with the people.
more information, for example, (in Spanish) can be found here: www.eluniversal.com.co/cultural/dos-cartageneros-protagonistas-de-la-primera-ruta-cultural-de-artes-por-los-dere-239713
they handle different topics. and these days, it's all about the experiences of women in Colombia.
a week ago - mas o menos - i went with a friend to participate in one of their workshops at universidad tecnológica de bolívar. it was a poetry workshop and it was super enriching.
i was blessed to meet powerful, creative and inspiring young women and witnessing their experiences, shared my part, and left with a heart full of poesía... and much more. i am super grateful i could be part of that workshop, who was lead by colectivalaruda.wordpress.com/nosotras-2/#jp-carousel-411 who is part of LA RUDA in Bogota.
afterwards, Leidy asked us to make a video why we think LA RUTA CULTURAL is important. it is in spanish and we had lots of fun:

translation:
sign hold with the word VISIBILITY
L: hello, i am Lorenza.
me: hello, I am nadine.
L: for me, a ruta cultural for women in the periphery (of the barrios) is important because of visibilty. it is important especially for people living in the periphery because mostly cultural live happens in the center of the city (this is were cultural live is most visible in Cartagena but it isn't the most visited place from people from the barrios). and now it's time for visibility of another Cartagena. because the women in their neighbourhoods and all of us deserves human rights!
(la ruta cultural is about creating awareness related to human rights)
me: women's voice have been silenced in histories of the world/ all over the world. la ruta cultural is a great opportunity to make them heard. visibility is important because many people aren't aware about shared experiences and experiences from others. exchanging stories - talking and listening - can transform lives for better. let us listen to the voices of the women in Cartagena!
